Spider has to absorb virus punches

The bout of the South African lightweight champion, Tshifhiwa "Spider" Munyai, has been postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic. He was supposed to fight against Ayanda Nkosi at the Randburg Recreation Centre in a WBF world-title bout later this month.

He said that in this period of lockdown, he did not have any income. He is appealing to good Samaritans or businesspeople to help him to pay his rent and provide food for him. “As much as boxing is a livelihood for many boxers, they'll have to maintain their fitness levels,” Munyai said.

"We had no choice but to do as the State President ordered and postpone all the activities, because we must make sure everybody is safe and must stand together."

He urged the youth to be serious with their education, so that they can make a significant contribution to the community in which they live. “The youth must stay away from drugs and criminal activities and prepare themselves for careers that will benefit them in life.”

“I wish to express continued support for the measures announced by the State President to combat the spread of the coronavirus. I call on all our societies to adhere to the lockdown regulations, stay at home, get tested, the washing of hands and keeping the recommended social distance.”
