Fabulous prizes in MTG Makonde Tournament

Sixteen teams from Makonde and the surrounding areas will be engaged in the MTG Makonde Annual Soccer Tournament from this weekend.

The tournament was officially launched during a ceremony at the Makonde Home Defenders grounds last Saturday.

The draw for the last 16 matches was conducted during the ceremony. Four matches will be played tomorrow, Saturday, and four on Sunday. All matches will be played at the Makonde Home Defenders grounds.

Tomorrow’s fixtures are Makonde FC vs TP Mazembe, Shadani Dangerous Scorpions vs MT Green Mambas, Makonde Young Tigers vs Khubvi Peace Makers and Musasenda Big 5 vs Mukula Jamaican Stars.

The following matches will be played on Sunday: Mudaswali United Brothers vs Tswera Hot Chilies, Khubvi Dangerous Darkies vs Matangari Rising Stars, Matangari High Aims vs Muhuyu Copper Stars and Makonde Home Defenders vs Makonde Youth FC.

According to one of the organisers of the tournament, Mr Madambini Maswine, the champions will receive R5 000 and a soccer kit. The runners-up will take home R2 500 and soccer kit. Teams booted out in the semi-final stage will each receive R1 150. Teams that will kiss the tournament goodbye in the top-eight stage will each receive R700 while the remaining teams will be presented with a consolation prize of R100.

The quarterfinal matches will be played next Thursday, 26 December, while the semi-finals and final will be played on Saturday, 28 December.
