Who will lift the Masawe trophy?

 

The opening matches for the annual Masawe Soccer tournament will be played this weekend. Sixteen teams from Vhufuli and the surrounding areas will take part in the tournament.

Four matches will be played at the Makhuvha SK New Look grounds tomorrow and four at the Vhufuli Gooldville Young Tigers grounds. The matches at the SK New Look grounds are: Ngudza United Brothers vs Mutuwa Brazilians, Ngwenani Manchester United vs Vhufuli Pull Together, Gooldville Young Tigers vs Tshitereke Young Citizens and Lunungwi United vs Mukumbani Shooting Stars.

The four matches that will be played at the Gooldville Young Tigers grounds are: Rallies Stars FC vs Vondwe United Brothers, Domboni FC vs Matatshe FC, Tshilapfene Sporting Arsenal vs Tshidimbini Brave Lions and Makhuvha Up the Ants vs Tshivhungululu Hungry Vultures.

The toss for the quarter-final matches will be conducted after the last game tomorrow afternoon. The quarter-final matches will be played at the Gooldville Young Tigers grounds on Sunday, while the semi-final matches will be played on Thursday, 26 December. The final is scheduled for next Saturday, 28 December.

According to the organizers of the tournament, the champions will receive R8 000, a floating trophy, soccer kit, gold medals and a soccer ball. The runners-up will take home R5 000, soccer kit, silver medals and a soccer ball. The third-placed side will receive R4 000, soccer kit and a soccer ball, while the team that will finish in the fourth position will receive R3 000, soccer kit and a soccer ball.

The best keeper, player of the tournament and the top goal scorer will each receive R500 and a trophy.
