Mikhado recall coach Abel Makhubele

“The devil you know is better than the one you don’t.”

This saying is quite relevant to the situation in which one of the Vhembe-based ABC Motsepe League sides, Mikhado FC, find themselves now. Mikhado swallowed their pride and recalled the team’s former head coach, Mr Abel Makhubele, on Monday.

Makhubele’s appointment comes after Mikhado parted ways with the former head coach, Mr Tshepo Motsoneng, last weekend. According to the club’s public relations manager, Mr Prince Manenzhe, the decision to appoint Mr Makhubele was reached after the realisation that the team’s future was looking bleak under the guidance of Motsoneng.

Mikhado played 11 matches under the guidance of Motsoneng, won 6, drew 3 and lost 2. Although Mikhado are closely contesting for the league title, Mr Manenzhe said that they were not happy with the team’s performance, considering the fact that they had assembled what he described as the best squad ever. Mr Manenzhe said that the team’s performance should have been consistent under the circumstances.

He further indicated that most of the players knew Mr Makhubele’s coaching philosophy since they were part of last season’s team.  He stressed the fact that, as management of the team, they knew Mr Makhubele’s weak and strong points, so it would be easy for them to give him guidance when the need arose.

Mr Makhubele was appointed the head coach for Mikhado FC early last season. The team were on top of the log at the end of the season, securing a place in the national promotional playoffs. Unfortunately for Mikhado, they could not make the grade there. His relationship with the club from the Nzhelele Valley came to an end after the playoffs in June this year.

Asked about his new appointment, the former Black Leopards and Dynamos head coach said he was happy to be associated with Mikhado again. Makhubele was on the team’s technical bench when Mikhado played against Venda Football Academy in their league match at the Tshifudi Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
