Financial boost for first division clubs

What has been known as the National First Division (NFD) for almost a decade will now be known as the GladAfrica Championship. This follows the decision by the management of GladAfrica Construction Company to sponsor the league.

The ceremony during which the sponsorship was officially launched was held in Kempton Park last Wednesday.

According to a statement from the league, the sponsorship will run for five years. The sponsorship means that the league champions will now take home R3 million, compared to the R500 000 that the previous champions received. The runners-up will now receive R1,5 million, while the third-placed side will become R1 million richer.

During the ceremony, the chairman of GladAfrica, Mr Noel Mashaba, said that the opportunity to work with the Premier Soccer League could not have come at a better time. He described their relationship with the PSL as a wagon that will take their company brand to a higher level.

The PSL chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, said that the sponsorship would give GladAfrica an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to society through sports development.
