The newly formed Mutulagole Community Development Trust is already bearing fruit for the rural community members of Matangari village outside Thohoyandou.

The trust, which is the brainchild of the young traditional leader of Matangari village, Musanda Vho-Mutulagole Nyamande, was formed in January this year.  The aim of the trust is to develop the village, while at the same time assisting indigent community members to realize their potential.

The recent beneficiaries are local young athletes who were financed by the trust to take part in the Capricorn District Municipality Marathon in Polokwane.

Ndivhuwo Luvhimbe, Portia Makhado and Tanganedzani Nemaungani visited Musanda Vho-Mutulagole Nyamande at his palace to express their gratitude and to show him the medals they brought along from the marathon. Luvhimbe brought along gold and bronze medals, Makhado brought gold and Nemaungani took home a bronze medal.

Luvhimbe said it was important for them to visit and thank their traditional leader, because they would not have participated in the marathon, largely due to a shortage of funds. “We are very happy about what Vhamusanda has done for us. This clearly demonstrates that he has the interests of his community at heart. We stay in the deep rural area and most of the people here survive by tilling the land. So, it becomes very difficult for us to raise funds to participate in competitions, especially those that are held outside the jurisdiction of our village.”

Luvhimbe’s sentiments were echoed by Makhado, who said jubilantly: “We made sure that we do not disappoint our traditional leader because he is very serious about developing and nurturing our sporting talents. We would like to call upon other young people in our village to participate in sport because the leadership of this villages is readily available to assist. Words alone cannot express our gratitude to our traditional leader.”

Musanda Vho-Mutulagole Nyamande said he would continue to assist his villagers through the trust and on individual grounds. “We are very proud of these kids because they have put our village on the map. Now that they are doing well, we have compiled a calendar for all the provincial athletics competitions that they would like to compete in. We will gladly assist them financially to take part in all these races.”

He called upon individuals and organized formations to submit proposals to the trust, so that they could see how to assist them. “We call upon local businesses and individuals to come on board to assist us to develop this community,” he said in conclusion.
