Black Leopards failed to impress their home crowd when they played to a 1-1 draw with Bidvest Wits in their Multichoice Diski Challenge League match at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday morning.

Unlike in their previous games where Lidoda Duvha played entertaining football and, at the end, suffered the pain of conceding an avalanche of goals, this time around they managed to keep the opponents out of their danger area for the better part of the game.

It took the Thohoyandou outfit only 10 minutes to claim the lead. Their sharpshooter, Thembisani Nevhulamba, received a beautiful pass from Tshepeng Moremedi and tried his luck from the edge of the box with a ground cutter. The keeper of Wits, Daniël Meyer, watched helplessly as the ball hit the back of the net.

Lisakhanya Mlonyeni of Wits was reprimanded with a card in the 18th minute. He tackled Tshepeng Moremedi from behind and the referee, Mr Karabo Mokau, was lenient enough not to let him see red. The home side were still leading when the teams adjourned for the half-time break.

Andiswa Ndawonde, the Leopards’ centre back, was booked with a yellow card two minutes into the last half. He obstructed Charles Sithole and the referee took no time before producing yellow. Leopards could have increased the margin in the 60th minute, but Thembisani Nevhulamba was unlucky. He went loose from the right corner and unleashed a half volley from inside the box.

The ball missed the crossbar by inches.

Leopards introduced Ivan Mahangwahaya and Sihle Chabalala for Thembisani Nevhulamba and Tshepeng Moremedi respectively.

The visitors found the equalizer in the 78th minute. Their right winger, Molahledi Khunyedi, was brought down within the box. That was a clear penalty  and Edson Khumalo scored from the white spot. The game turned lukewarm in the remaining 10 minutes.
