Amazing comeback victory for Table Newcomers

Table Newcomers Masters came back from a 1-2 deficit to beat Havhavha Masters 2-3 in their Vhembe Masters Soccer League match at the Thohoyandou P-East grounds on Sunday afternoon.

Havhavha approached the game aggressively, with their midfielders distributing some telling passes to the strikers. It took them only eight minutes to open their account. Their bulldozer striker, Avhatakali Mudoseni, tried his luck with a long-range half volley. Thabelo Tshisele, the Newcomers’ keeper, watched helplessly as the ball went beyond his reach.

Havhavha abandoned their positions and packed themselves at the back in a bid to defend their lead. They were severely punished for that. Newcomers capitalized in the 38th minute. Mphedziseni Mulaudzi gave the ball the final touch, following a scramble within the box.

The score was 1-1 when the teams went for the half-time break. Havhavha introduced two new faces early in the last half. They replaced Albert Mphadzha and their first goal scorer, Avhatakali Mudoseni, with Mutshutshu Munyai and Vhutshilo Makwarela respectively.

Havhavha looked more determined after the replacements. They took the lead in the 59th minute. A defender of Newcomers passed the ball back to his own keeper, who fumbled to clear the ball, causing an own goal.

Newcomers introduced Ntodeni Mugeri and Humbulani Mulaudzi for Humbulani Singo and Meshack Tshikovhi respectively. The Newcomers replacements proved to be a clever move on the part of the technical staff. Humbulani Mulaudzi made his presence felt when his long-range volley hit the crossbar and landed across the goal line.

Their winning goal came five minutes towards the end of the game. Ntevhedzeni Mudzanani forced his way through the defence of Havhavha and beat the keeper with a half volley.
