Rainbow too strong for Eagles

Rainbow Sport Academy fought hard to earn a 1-0 victory over Maebane Young Eagles in their Safa Vhembe MMK Administrators league match at Maebane on Sunday.

Eagles had nobody to blame for the defeat but themselves. They squandered countless scoring opportunities. Their captain, Humbulani Managa, could not live up to the fans’ expectations as a scoring machine as the defenders were all over him. Realizing that life was difficult for him as a striker, Managa moved back and played as a midfielder.

The keeper of Rainbow, Mahlatsi Marakalala, made his presence felt in the sixth minute when he braved Dakalo Masha’s close-range volley and palmed the ball away for a corner kick.

Rainbow’s all-important goal came in the 24thminute when Makhanda Musekwa blasted in a rocket from inside the box.

The second half saw Eagles commit more blunders. Their right winger, Justice Mametja, caused an upset in the 50thminute. He unleashed aimlessly from inside the box instead of relaxing on the ball and picking the spot.

Both sides effected some changes to their starting line-up in the last half. Eagles replaced Thabelo Mavhetha and Gudani Ramashia with Lufuno Luvhengo and Mulalo Thovhei respectively in the 59th minute.

Mbavhalelo Thathaisa of Rainbow was also warned with a card for dangerous play in the 70th minute.
