As if they had won a cup final match, it was all joy at the Thohoyandou Stadium after Black Leopards mauled Baroka FC 1-0 in their Absa Premiership League match on Wednesday evening.

The visitors from Polokwane took the game to Lidoda duvha in the first 15 minutes, forcing the Leopards’ defenders, Jean Munganga, Pentjie Zulu and Thivhavhudzi Ndou to perform overtime duties.

Baroka, or Bakgakga as they are affectionately called, squandered two obvious scoring chances in the 10th and 14th minute respectively. In the first instance Ranga Chivaviro received a neat pass from Hassan Banda at the edge of the box and unleashed a powerful half volley. King Ndlovu, the Leopards’ keeper, braved the shot and palmed the ball away for a corner kick.

Goodman Mosele missed a fortune when he hesitated for too long to unleash within the box and he lost possession.

The home side regrouped from behind towards the end of the first half, but Baroka’s defence was rock-solid. Thivhavhudzi Ndou, the Leopards’ centre back, was reprimanded with a card for protesting against the referee’s decision three minutes into the last half.

Lidoda duvha effected two changes to their starting line-up soon afterwards. They replaced Mwape Musonda and Khuliso Mudau with Themba Ndlovu and Joseph Mhlongo respectively. Baroka responded by introducing Jemondre Dickens for Onkabetse Makgantai.

Goodman Mosele of Baroka found himself on the wrong side of the football laws after tackling Eden Nene in a rough way.

Leopards’ head coach, Mr Joel Masutha, was forced to replace Thivhavhudzi Ndou with Nyiko Sibanda after Ndou sustained an injury to the knee.

The goal through which Leopards earned the three significant points came in the 74th minute. Phathutshedzo Nange beat the keeper with a long-range half volley.

Realizing that victory was almost certain, Leopards played defensive football in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Leopards’ goal scorer, Phathutshedzo Nange, was nominated the Man of the Match and he was presented with a trophy after the game.
