Lions and Chiefs in Madzuhe clash

 

The opening matches of the annual Petrus Madzuhe Soccer Tournament were played at the Maranzhe Grounds over the past weekend.

The quarter-final matches will be played at the same venue tomorrow. The winners of the quarter-final matches will meet in the semi-finals on Sunday morning, while the final will be played later in the afternoon.

The results of last weekend’s matches are: Matangari High Aims 3, Edison Muraida 1; Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions 1, Muledzhi Fire Boys 1; Maranzhe Hungry Lions 6, Voweto Maximum Force 5; Tshambobvu Junior Aces 2, Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions 1; Tshidzini Happy Fighters 5, Duthuni Happy Boys 0 and Beuster Mighty Chiefs 2, Malamangwa Scorching Winters 0.

The first quarter-final match will be between Beuster Mighty Chiefs and Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions. Edison Muraida FC will lock horns with Tshidzini Happy Fighters shortly afterwards. The hosts, Maranzhe Hungry Lions, will entertain Voweto Maximum Force shortly after midday. The last quarter-final match will be between Muledzhi Fire Boys and Tshambobvu Junior Aces.

According to one of the organisers, Mr Calvin Sihwili, Matangari High Aims were dismissed from the tournament after it was discovered that they had fielded an improperly registered player in their match against Edison Muraida FC, whom they beat 3-1.

This year’s champions will receive R6 000 and soccer kit. The runners-up will receive R3 000 and the teams booted out of the tournament in the semi-final stage will each receive a cash prize of R1 000.
