Mubs too strong for Young Tigers

Although Munangwe United Brothers (Mubs) conceded an early goal against Mushiru Young Tigers in their quarterfinal match of the Boy Nemakonde KO competition at the Tshifudi Stadium on Saturday, they did not lose hope. They made a comeback and beat Young Tigers 4-2 to secure a place in the semifinal stage of the tournament.

Young Tigers opened their account in the 14th minute. Rudzani Lishivha beat the offside trap and sent the keeper the wrong way. Mubs took the game to their opponents soon afterwards. A scramble within the Tigers’ danger area gave rise to the opening goal of Mubs. Avhatakali Maungudze blasted in a rocket in the 19th minute.

Young Tigers lost shape in the middle of the park after the Mubs’ equalizing goal. Avhatakali Maungudze completed his brace with a half volley in the 25th minute. Pressure continued to mount onto the defence of Young Tigers. Oriphulusa Netshishivhe, the Mubs top striker, was brought down within the box and the referee, Mr Olani Kwinda, pointed at the white spot.

Netshishivhe converted from the penalty spot. The score was 4-1 when the teams adjourned for half time. The Mubs fourth goal came when Netshishivhe was on target, following Wisani Hobyane’s square pass.

Young Tigers introduced three new faces in the last half to strengthen their striking force. They replaced Fhulufhelo Mmbara, Tshivhase Nemauluma and Witness Tshana with Mishumo Mbulawi, Lucky Mathebula and Fizah Sigida respectively. Mubs responded by bringing in Rofunwa Musetsho and Lufuno Khorommbi for Fhumulani Sithole and Mphumudzeni Madida.

Young Tigers pulled one back via Wisani Mahonisi late in the game.
