Berea in final of Vhembe Mayoral Cup

Berea FC proceeded to the final of the Vhembe Mayoral Cup when they beat Tshivhidulu Hungry Lions 5-4 at the Rabali Stadium on Sunday.

The winner was determined by a penalty shoot-out as the two teams played to a 1-1 draw during regulation time.

Berea took the game to Lions from the first whistle, with their midfielders demonstrating a spirit of commitment. They could have sealed the game within the first 10 minutes, but their strikers were not accurate in converting obvious chances into goals.

Ndivhuwo Sathuma, Lions' right flank, had his chance in the 15th minute after receiving a brilliant pass from Lufuno Netshifhire. He shot aimlessly from close range and the ball went wide.

The referee flashed the first yellow card in the 30th minute. Dzivhuluwani Simba of Berea obstructed Oscar Ramatsitsi. Shortly thereafter, a defender of Lions handled the ball inside the penalty area and the referee pointed to the white spot. Dakalo Ratshitanga scored from the spot.

The half-time score was 1-0 in favour of Berea. Lions had a taste of bad luck in the 66th minute when Micheal Thidziambi shot into the hands of the keeper, Pfariso Khomunala, from the penalty area.

Lions equalised late in the match via Khumbelo Musundwa.
