Birds silence Iyarnga in local derby

The current leaders of Stream E of the MMK Administrators league, Makhitha Yellow Birds, deposited three points into their league account, following their 3-2 victory over Makhitha Iyarunga at Makhitha on Saturday.

Although they were playing in front of their home crowd, Birds looked disorganized in the first 20 minutes. Iyarunga scored their first goal in the 22nd minute. Their overlapping midfielder, Moses Mabeba, finished off a rebound after Mutshidzi Thoga’s volley hit the woodwork and bounced back into play. It took the Birds 35 minutes to retaliate. Obery Makhokha capitalised on a clearing error by Lutendo Mathatha. The halftime score was 1-1.

Iyarunga lost their original fighting spirit soon after the equalizer. They were severely punished for that. Itani “Dinah” Dzhabuli first beat the offside-trap and also the keeper to bring the score to 2-1. Iyarunga were awarded a free kick in the 35-meter area in the 57th minute. Innocent Mathatha beat the keeper with a ground cutter to bring the score to 2-2.

Birds increased the margin in the 74th minute. Shumani Ravhandalala was on target after intercepting a back pass.
