Leopards donate points to Bay

Black Leopards wrapped up their first-round league programme by donating some significant league points to Richards Bay FC, following their 1-2 defeat at the Umhlatuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay on Saturday.

Khulekani Madondo and Gregory Roelf scored for the home side, while Mwape Musonda scored Leopards’ solitary goal.

It was the first defeat for Black Leopards under the guidance of the new head coach, Mr Ivan Minnaert. Minnaert steered Leopards to two victories and a draw before last Saturday’s loss. Lidoda duvha dropped to the 10th position on the log after the defeat.

Witbank Spurs kept their title hopes alive by beating Stellenbosch FC 3-1 at the Puma Rugby Stadium in Emalahleni.  Stellenbosch were the first to find the net through Igraam Reyners. Khethukuthula scored the equalizer for Spurs towards the end of the first half. Gislam Deboutu and Peter Mubayiwa scored the last two later in the game.

It was a feast of goals at the Thohoyandou Stadium when Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila shared the spoils with Super Eagles. They played to a 3-3 draw. David Mathebula, Teboho Kalake and Themba Ndlovu scored TTM’s goals, while Molebedu Mokoena and Thapelo Selepe (2) were the goal scorers for the Eagles. TTM dropped from the sixth to the eighth spot on the log, following the unimpressive home result.

University of Pretoria lost 2-3 to Real Kings at the Absa Tuks Stadium in Pretoria. Nkosingiphiwe Phewa scored a brace while the third one came via Phumelela Bhengu. The new Royal Eagles’ head coach, Mr Kostadin Papic, steered his side to a second successive victory when they beat Ubuntu Cape Town 4-2 at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.

Jomo Cosmos reduced the gap between them and the log leaders, Highlands Park, when they crushed Mthatha Bucks 2-1 at the Vosloorus Stadium. Cosmos are now two points behind Highlands Park, who drew 0-0 with Cape Town All Stars. Mbombela United played to a goalless draw with Uthongathi FC at the Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit.
