Huge interest in Ramzas tournament

Soccer teams from as far as Sheshe, Folovhodwe, Hamakuya, Lwamondo, Thohoyandou, Mavunde, Zwigodini and Tshaulu have shown interest in participating in the 2017 Ramzas Annual Soccer Tournament. This was demonstrated by the huge turnout of teams to the briefing meeting with the competition organizing committee at Makonde Shopping Complex on Sunday.

For the past two years, the competition only covered soccer teams in certain parts of Thulamela Municipality. Following the announcement by the competition's organizing committee that the 2017 edition of the tournament would be open to all the teams in Vhembe affiliated to the Castle regional leagues and local football associations, there has been huge interest from the soccer teams to form part of this tournament.

The main sponsor of the tournament, Mr Lucky Ramano, has put aside R200 000 to organize this year’s tournament. The champions will take home R25 000, soccer kit, a floating trophy and a ball. The second-placed team will get R15 000, soccer kit and a ball. The team that finishes third will take home R5 000 and the team in fourth place will receive R3 500. All the other teams will receive a consolation prize.

According to the tournament competition manager, Mr Ntshengedzeni Mbedzi, the organizing committee is looking at a total of 32 teams this year. “During the meeting on Sunday, we had 29 teams that attended. We also had formal apologies from 11 interested teams that could not make it to the venue of the meeting for various reasons. This clearly indicates that we will have many teams that will be taking part in this tournament this year.”

Mbedzi urged interested teams to pay their R600 affiliation fee before 20 November. "This will give us time to finalize logistics for the kick-off, which is scheduled for the weekend of 25 and 26 November. After the 20th, correspondence will only be limited to the teams that have affiliated. We will not have a space for any team that pays affiliation fees after the 20th.  After making a payment, teams should submit receipts to our office for filing. Our FNB account name is Ramzas Knockout Competition and the account number is 624 331 637 72."

Any other enquiries in relation to the tournament can be directed to the competition manager, Mr Ntshengedzeni Mbedzi, at 072 910 4627 or the organizing committee's general secretary, Mr Zeblon Nelwamondo, at 072 747 2646.
