Musina Fire Boys win Niani Tournament

 

Musina Fire Boys are still in a celebratory mood after being crowned the champions of the Niani Off-season Soccer Tournament at Folovhodwe on Sunday.

Fire Boys beat Tshiungani Young Chiefs 4-2 in the final. Fire Boys were the first to find the net through Rendani Kobe in the 18th minute. Young Chiefs fought back via Fhumulani Hlongwane late in the game to bring the score to 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

The winner was determined through penalty shoot-out. Fire Boys scored three from the penalty spot, while Young Chiefs converted only one. Fire Boys received a cash prize of R1 300 and a floating trophy during a ceremony at the grounds shortly after the final.

The runners-up, Tshiungani Young Chiefs, became R700 richer. The other two teams who participated in the one-day event were Golovhodwe Mighty Stars and Madimbo Pull Together.

Musina Fire Boys beat Folovhodwe Mighty Stars 5-4 in the first semifinal earlier that day. The winner was determined through penalty shoot-out as the score was 2-2 when the referee blew the final whistle.

Tshiungani Young Chiefs’ way to the final went via Madimbo Pull Together, whom they beat 4-2 in the semifinal stage of the tournament. Hilton Dzeli, Cassius Manngwe, and Evans Phuravhathu scored for Young Chiefs, while the fourth was an own goal. The two goals for Pull Together were scored by Matios Ndou and Ernest Ndou.
