The Muraga sports grounds will be a hive of activity on Saturday, where the annual Samora Mudogwa Soccer Tournament will be staged.

The teams that will participate are from Muraga and surrounding areas. The teams that will battle it out in the one-day event are Sterkstroom Real Chiefs, Banyini Flying Swallows, Mukoma Young Stars and the hosts, Muraga Hazard Hotspurs.

The tournament was officially opened during a ceremony at the Vhafamadi Hotel in Makwarela three weeks ago.

The champions will receive R5 000, a floating trophy, gold medals, soccer kit and a soccer ball. The runners-up will receive R2 500, soccer kit, silver medals and a soccer ball.

The two teams booted out in the first round will each take home a consolation prize of R500 and a soccer ball. The best player in the tournament, top goal scorer, best goalkeeper and the best supporter will each receive R200 and a trophy.

According to the chairman of the organizing committee, Mr Dakalo Ndou, the cash prizes are likely to increase, depending on the amount they will receive from the other prospective sponsors.

The toss for the semifinal matches was conducted during the official launching ceremony. Banyini Flying Swallows will play against Sterkstroom Real Chiefs while Muraga Hazard Hotspurs will meet Mukoma Young Stars.

According to the organizers, the prize-giving ceremony will be held at the grounds shortly after the final game. Sterkstroom Real Chiefs are the defending champions.
