More money for MMK teams

 

The relationship between MMK Administrators and the Safa Vhembe Regional Football Association is something that will be there for many more years to come. This was announced by the company’s chief operations officer, Mr Munei Mukwevho, during the association’s prize-giving ceremony at the Thohoyandou Indoor Sports Centre last Friday evening.

Mukwevho stated that the company would increase the sponsorship from R550 000 to R600 000 in the coming season. He expressed apreciation for the way the association was handling its financial matters. A total of R906 500 in prize money was distributed to the teams affiliated to the association last season.

The league’s overall champions, Mikhado FC, received a cash prize of R50 000 and a floating trophy.  Mpheni Home Defenders, who finished in the second spot, took home R35 000. The next two teams, Rockers FC and Tshakhuma RO United, received R30 000 and R25 000 respectively.

The teams that finished from the fifth to the ninth position in the champ of champs, Berea FC, Rambuda Young Fighters, Makovha All Stars, Phandulaluvalo FC and Mashamba Benfica, were each given R15 000.

The prizes for the Safa Vhembe Total Challenge were also presented during the ceremony. Mikhado FC received R20 000, a soccer kit and gold medals. Mpheni Home Defenders walked away with R10 000, soccer kit and silver medals. Ngwenani Young Chiefs (third) were given R7 000. Phandulaluvalo FC (fourth) received R5 000.

The teams booted out in the quarterfinal stage, Beuster Mighty Chiefs, Muswodi Happy Fighters, Makuya Junior Aces and Obert Ministries Fighters, were each given R3 600.

Individual awards were presented to Ndaedzo Mareda of Mpheni Home Defenders (best goal scorer), Elikana Nemakanga of Mikhado (best goalkeeper), Engedzedzani Mbedzi of Phandulaluvalo (player of the tournament), Itani Musandiwa of Mikhado (best coach) and Eric Munyai (best referee).

During the ceremony, it was officially announced that Mikhado FC have been promoted to the ABC Motsepe League. It was also announced that the activities for the new season will commence over the first weekend of next month.
