SAB League play-offs this weekend (at last!)

The much-awaited SAB League provincial playoff matches will finally be played at the Makhuvha Stadium this weekend.

The event was postponed several times as a result of pending cases relating to the registration of players. The last case to be finalized was between Mikhado FC and Mpheni Home Defenders, which was laid to rest on Tuesday this week.

Five teams representing the five districts in Limpopo Province will battle it out in the two-day event. The five teams that are gearing up for the playoffs are: Ditlou FC (Sekhukhune) as well as Ditlou FC of Waterberg, Baroka FC (Capricorn), Mikhado FC (Vhembe) and Nkowankowa Barcelona (Mopani).

Tomorrow’s programme will be opened by the match between Mikhado and Baroka at 08:00. The rest of the fixtures are: Ditlou (S) vs Baroka; Mikhado vs Ditlou (W); Baroka vs Ditlou (S) and Ditlou (W) Nkowankowa Barcelona.

Ditlou from Waterberg and their Sekhukhune counterparts will be the first to enter the field play on Sunday morning. The rest of the matches are Nkowankowa Barcelona vs Mikhado; Baroka vs Ditlou (W), Mikhado vs Ditlou (S) and Nkowankowa Barcelona vs Baroka.

According to the rules of the tournament, no player without a valid identity document or passport will be allowed to play. The two teams that will finish on top of the mini league log will gain promotion to the ABC Motsepe League.

Safa Vhembe was represented by Madridtas FC in last year’s tournament at the University of Limpopo Stadium. Madridtas failed to make the grade as they finished the tournament in the third position.
