Only one point for Stars

Cobra Stars, an affiliate of the MMK Administrators Soccer League, managed to collect only one point from the team’s two matches this weekend.

They lost 1-4 to Tshivhazwaulu Peace Makers at Tshivhazwaulu on Saturday and played to a goalless draw with Voweto Maximum Force at the Zwavhavhili grounds the following day.

Cobra Stars could have won their match against Maximum Force convincingly, but their strikers were unlucky. Although they lost their number one goalkeeper, Khodani Matodzi, through injury in the opening minutes of the game, the Stars from Tshisaulu village did not lose their fighting spirit. Matodzi sustained an arm injury while clearing Mukovhe Maila’s volley in the 14th minute. Enos Medzhuta replaced him.

Realizing that his strikers seemed to have forgotten their scoring boots at home, Rendani Masindi, the sweeper of Force, abandoned his position to assist the goal poachers. Masindi’s presence in the attacking line was felt when he tried his luck from just outside the box with a half volley. The ball went a little wide, much to the fans’ disappointment.

Maximum Force effected the first change to their starting line-up four minutes into the last half. They replaced Tsepo Ganyane, who paved the way for Awelani Ramavhulela. Cobra Stars came close to scoring when their diminutive striker, Thembuluwo Mabula, went loose from the middle of the park but shot straight to the stranded keeper.

The keeper of Maximum Force, Lutendo Ramuntshi, was forced to stretch to the limit to palm away Khuthadzo Mashau’s  attempt for a corner kick in the 76th minute. The game turned lukewarm in the last 15 minutes.
