Defenders on top in Stream E final

The players of Mpheni Home Defenders played their hearts out when they outclassed Makhitha Iyarunga 2-1 in the final of the Safa Vhembe Total Cup Stream E competition at Tshiozwi on Saturday.

Iyarunga started to demonstrate their rough skills in the middle of the first half. The referee calmed the situation by reprimanding Lutendo Mathatha with a card. This happened after Mathatha had brutally tackled Trust Tshidumo from behind.

The keeper of Iyarunga, Hector Malange, made his presence felt in the 30th minute. Defenders were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Margan Makhuvha unleashed from the set piece. Maalange impressed even the opponents when he braved the hot shot and executed a brilliant save.

Tshilidzi Sirovha of Defenders was lucky to go away with a yellow card. He handled the ball intentionally, but the referee only flashed a yellow card when everyone thought he would be taking an early shower.

Leasley Mauluma of Defender scored from 30 meters out, leaving the keeper flat-footed.

Both sides effected some changes to their starting line-up in the last half. Defenders enjoyed ball possession throughout the last half, but they were unfortunate not to score. Iyarunga equalised  through Moses Mabeba  in the 40th minute.

Defenders missed two clear chances in the first 70th and 74th minute. Firstly, Trust Tshidumo shot wide from close range after receiving a neat pass from Mpho Matuba. A few minutes later, Tshidumo caused another upset. He released aimlessly from outside the box, much to the disappointment of the team’s supporters.

The goal that separated the boys from the men was scored by Dakalo Nwanamidwa after Emmanuel Mphephu had dribbled past three defenders in a row and passed the ball to Nwanamidwa.
