Two victories for United

Last weekend was a joyful one for Gwamasenga United Brothers. They collected six points and five goals in the two matches they played.

They beat Shayandima Dynamos FC 2-1 at the Gwamasenga grounds on Saturday and overpowered Cobra Stars 3-1 at the Tshisaulu Greenfields the following day.

Sunday’s game against Cobra Stars was a thriller. Both sides managed to display entertaining football, despite the wet weather. The home missed two clear chances in the opening minutes. First, Rodney Netshifhefhe's half volley missed the target by inches. Khuthadzo Ramahala missed a fortune a two minutes later. He tried his luck from the edge of the box with a ground cutter, but there was no enough power behind the ball and the Brothers’ keeper, Ritshidze Tsanwani, handled it easily.

United Brothers took the game to the home side soon afterwards. They scored two goals in quick succession. Masala Tsanwani was on target, following a neat pass by Muzikayise Sithole. Cobra Stars lost cohesion in the middle of the park after the Brothers’ opening goal. That gave the visitors a good chance to increase the margin through Mbangiseni Muedi in the 29th minute. Muedi completed his brace in the 34th minute. He beat the keeper with a volley from a free kick.

Cobra Stars pulled one back five minutes before the referee, Mr Mboniso Ndlovu, blew the half-time whistle. Khodani Mudau gave the ball a final touch, following a scramble within the box.

Nthonifheni Mungoni of United Brothers was booked for obstructing Ntsieni Muvhango two minutes into the last half. Both sides effected one change to their starting line-ups later in the game, but that did not change the complexion of the game.
