Teams to compete for R90 000 prize-money

 

Teams participating in the annual Sinthumule/Kutama Community Sport Development’s soccer and netball tournament festive challenge will share R90 000.

The tournament will also cater for U/15 development teams. The senior soccer tournament will include 32 teams and the matches will take place between 25 December and 1 January 2017.

Mr Elvis “Parks” Phathela, public relations officer of Sinthumule/Kutama Community Sport Development, said that it was important for future stars to be identified at grassroots level. He applauded the sponsors for helping to identify the talent in the region. He thanked the sponsors, Premjee& Sons, Bruzar group, Prof Nevhutanda Foundation, Obby Moseboa, African Hardware, Timbercity, Magwala and Marindi Funeral Scheme.

The winner of the competition will receive R15 000, a floating trophy, a new soccer kit and gold medals, while the runner-up will receive R10 000, a soccer kit and silver medals. The team that will finish in third position will go home with R5 000, bronze medals and a soccer kit. The team ending fourth will bank R4 000 and a soccer kit.

Teams ending from 5th to 8th position will get R1 000 each, while teams ending from position 9 to 16 will receive R800 each. The 16 teams that lose in the first round, will pocket R500 each.

The champions of the netball competition will get R1 500 and a netball kit, while the runners-up will get R1 000.

The chairperson of the Makhado Local Football Association, Mr Takalani Maphaha, defined football as a good tool to fight unemployment and poverty. He stated that the government alone cannot address the high rate of unemployment.

The finals will be played at Vhuilafuri Stadium on the 1st of January 2017.
