Former soccer star 'Shonaphanzi' laid to rest

Family, friends, fans, former teammates and soccer officials, co-workers and ANC members paid their last respects to the late former soccer player of Tshiozwi Dynamos, Kaizer “Shonaphanzi” Magera, on Saturday, 6 August. Magera (40) passed away on 29 July, after a short illness. He was buried at the Tshikhwani cemetery.

The chairman of Tshiozwi Dynamos, Mr Calvin Sidebi, said that the football family had lost an important role player in the development of soccer. “Back in the day, Magera gave his opponent defenders a tough time to mark him. He was a good player, who later did a lot to help the young ones. He was loyal to the community, his team and to his fellow men. Magera was a true community builder, always there whenever we needed him,” Sidebi said.

Cllr Masia Mulaudzi described Magera as a community builder and coach who was “larger than life”. “He will always be remembered for his contribution to the soccer industry, but also within his community. His family should be proud for producing such a valuable member in our society,” Mulaudzi said.
