At 100 Vho-Khabana still feels as “strong as an ox”

The village of Shakadza in the Niani area outside Mutale nearly came to standstill when Mukalaha Vho-Joseph Khabana celebrated his 100th birthday on Friday, 2 April. Relatives, friends, and local residents all joined in the festivities.

Vho-Khabana was born and raised by Christian parents. He said that, even though he now walked with a walking stick, he still felt as strong as an ox and hoped to celebrate many more birthdays to come.

He thanked everyone, including his children, who had helped to organize the wonderful party for him. “I can still speak well, eat and I am able to see. I thank God for keeping me alive until now,” he said.

“I was born and raised in a church family. We were members of the Reformed Church in Shakadza. Today I’m a staunch member of the Thasululo Ministry and I want to die a born-again old man. I firmly rely on the Bible for guidance and direction,” he said.

Ms Ester Mudau (59), Vho-Khabana’s firstborn, said that the madala had raised all his children the Christian way too. They were taught good morals and were encouraged to take education seriously. Their mother, Elina, died in 2017, and Mudau thanked God for still having their father alive with them today.

Vho-Khabana is the proud father of six children and 27 grandchildren.
