Mvusuludzo band loses a voice

The Mvusuludzi band has lost one of its treasured voices. Ms Tendani Alivina Tshidino (58), wife of the founder of the band, William Tshidino, died last week.

The band, based in Phalama-Thengwe in the Mutale area, became famous for its traditional Tshivenda music. Tendani, with her sweet voice, acted as singer and backing vocalist for the band. She died on 2 September in the Donald Fraser hospital after a long illness. She was buried at the Mulodi burial site on Sunday, 6 September.

A heart-broken William Tshidino said that his band started in 2010. The first album, Ri ya hayani (We are going home) featured tracks such as Nwana o sala vhutunguni, mme awe vho tuwa, ndo tou uvha, and mme anga uri vha mulele, which were immediate hits, attracting a lot of airplay on radio stations.

“I will try to sing and produce songs, but my heart is broken as it was a family band. I will miss her sweet voice, which was admired by many people,” said Tshidino.

One of Tendani’s sons, Malachia Tshidino, who is also a Venrap artist, described his mother as a very kind person who had raised her children with love. “They will miss her, may her soul rest in peace,” he said.

She left behind her husband, Mr William Tshidino, and eight children - four girls and four boys.
