ANC Vhembe regional conference put on hold

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the highly anticipated ANC Vhembe regional conference, which was scheduled to be held from 29 to 31 May, has been suspended until further notice, said the spokesperson, Mr Tshifhiwa Dali.

Dali said branches and structures would be informed in due course of the new date and venue. In the meantime, the hottest contest is expected to be between Cllr Dowelani Nenguda and Adv Makonde Mathivha for the position of Vhembe regional chairperson. Nenguda is the current deputy chairperson of the ANC in the Vhembe region and is also serving as the executive mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality. Mathivha is the former Thulamela municipal manager.

The positions for the Nenguda camp are expected to be as follows: chairperson - Dowelani Nenguda; deputy chairperson - Adv Anderson Mudunungu; secretary - Percy Mashimbye; deputy secretary - Matodzi Ralushai; and treasurer - Mihloti Muhlophe, mayor of Musina.

The candidates in the Mathivha camp are expected to be: chairperson - Adv Makonde Mathivha; deputy chairperson - Moses Maluleke, mayor of Collins Chabane Municipality; secretary - Rudzani Ludere; deputy secretary - Siyaphi Shirilele; and treasurer - Samuel Munyai, mayor of Makhado Municipality.

Nenguda said that the ANC was facing many challenges and he wanted to make sure that discipline within the ANC structures would be instilled. “When elected, we will make sure that political education is prioritised in order to eliminate ill-discipline within our structures. There is a need to rebuild the ANC and a programme for renewal will also be implemented in order to unify all members of the ANC.”

Nenguda further said that corruption and looting of state resources should come to an end and “we must stop misuse of finances meant for service delivery. We want clean governance in all our municipalities and we must make sure that all our communities are getting better
services”.

The chairperson of both the Collins Chabane ANC sub-region and Samora Machel branch, Cllr Dogen Ndove, supports Nenguda to be elected as the chairperson “because his political maturity and his credentials speak volumes. Dowelani Nenguda brought stability in Vhembe District Municipality. He is able to unite people along tribal lines; hence, his priority is community development”.
