The executive mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality (VDM), Cllr Dowelani Nenguda, has urged new councillors to work hard towards delivering better service to the communities.
“We want hardworking councillors ready to deliver better services to the communities, especially the water services. They have to understand they have joined a hardworking council and they must serve the people to the best of their abilities,” said Nenguda.
He was speaking during a special council meeting in the parliamentary buildings in Thohoyandou when VDM welcomed and swore in some new councillors.
The new councillors are Dr Gladys Nethengwe, who replaced Cllr Florence Radzilani, Eunice Nekhunguni, who replaced Cllr Mavhungu Lerule- Ramakhanya, who is now the Speaker of the Limpopo legislature, and Grace Mokoena, who replaced Cllr Lillian Managa.
The chairperson of the Vhembe House of Traditional Leaders, Thovhele Vele Kutama, said as traditional leaders they were ready to work with new councillors for the delivery of services in the communities.
One of the councillors who were sworn in, veteran politician Dr Gladys Nethengwe, said she and the other new councillors welcomed the deployment to the Vhembe District Municipality and were ready to work hard towards the development of their communities.
