89 suspects arrested in Thohoyandou

 

In ongoing police action against crime, a total of 89 suspects were caught over the weekend for various crimes in and around Thohoyandou.

“The arrested suspects are facing charges ranging from pointing of a firearm, possession of suspected stolen property, public drinking, and possession of dagga, to all forms of assault as well as drunken driving,” said the provincial police spokesperson, Lt Col. Mashudu Malelo, in a statement.

Some of these arrest included 15 suspects who allegedly tried to smuggle dagga parcels into the Thohoyandou Medium B prison.

Three more suspects were caught during a routine stop-and-search operation, during which suspected stolen copper cables were found in their possession.

The police also managed to catch another suspect they believe to be responsible for a spate of armed robberies in the area. Balangani Tshisudi had already appeared in the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges relating to various armed robberies and attempted murder. His case was postponed until 23 February for further police investigation and he will remain in custody until then.
