Bus accident leaves 33 injured

Traffic was held up for hours on Saturday, 25 November, as a result of an accident on the N1 north.

The accident happened shortly before the first Witvlag turn-off when a Mabirimisa bus, travelling from Louis Trichardt, collided with a truck that was travelling in the opposite direction. This accident occurred at approximately 14:00.

According to the Limpopo Traffic Department a total of 33 people were injured, which included the driver of the bus. Three more people escaped with only minor injuries.

The truck driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while driving around a bend in the road that was difficult to navigate due to Saturday afternoon’s heavy rainfall. This caused the truck to veer over into the lane of oncoming traffic, where it collided with the bus. The bus finally came to a halt, behind the truck, blocking off both lanes of traffic.

According to rescue workers that attended the scene the normal flow of traffic was only restored after 19:00.
