Shock as missing Univen student is found dead

When Univen student Trevor Ngoveni went missing from his home at Maniini outside Thohoyandou on Monday, his family had hoped that he would be found alive.

Their hopes were dealt a fatal blow when his body was found floating in the Nandoni Dam on Friday afternoon.

Ngoveni (23), a third-year BA student, was described as a humble, down-to-earth person, whose peers looked up to and emulated him.

The circumstances leading to his disappearance and his murder are still a mystery, with family members still baffled about the whole episode.

Many in the village believe he was held captive somewhere and could have been killed the very night his body was thrown over the bridge after his captors developed cold feet when residents threatened a door-to-door search for him.

The news of his disappearance angered the community, who blockaded the main roads leading into and out of the village with rocks and other rubble on Friday.

Family spokesperson Mr Godfrey Mphaphuli said the family were having sleepless nights and could not eat after Terrence had gone missing. "We rushed to the bridge and it was very difficult to identify him as his head and face were badly swollen. He was badly injured and it showed that he was attacked before being killed."

* More information regarding the incident will be published in our printed edition on Friday.
