Police clamp down on illegal firearms

 

Limpopo police have rid the streets of several illegal firearms over the weekend, and in the process also recovered stolen goods worth millions.

Police launched a joint intelligent driven clean-up operation in areas where there was an alarming increase in the number of house breakings, farm attacks, robberies, thefts and car high jacking. These areas included Thohoyandou, Musina, Ritavi and Maake (Tzaneen), Mahwelereng (Mokopane), Nebo (Groblersdal), Morebeng (Polokwane), Roedtan, Motetema (Groblersdal), Burgersfort and Lephalale.

In total the police recovered 12 unlicensed firearms, 75 rounds of ammunition, two firearm magazines and arrested 30 suspects. The police also recovered three stolen vehicles and a

Provincial police commission Lt-Genl Nneke Ledwaba praised the force for a job well done and commended those citizens who continue to work with the police to combat crime.
