More unrest in Vuwani

Unrest has flared up again in Vuwani on Monday morning. Limpopo Mirror reporter, Elmon Tshikhudo, visited the area where residents were getting ready to march to the municipality.

“Services in Vuwani have been brought to a standstill,” said Tshikhudo.

Police in the area were on high alert to keep a watchful eye on the protesters. Last year Vuwani saw several violent protests when residents refused to be incorporated into a new municipality, including Malamulele.

“Residents are complaining that while they are negotiating with government, government is doing so in bad faith as they are implementing many things in the area against the will of the people,” said Tshikhudo.

Residents will be marching to the municipal offices following last week’s unsuccessful talks with the community. Among others, residents are still dissatisfied over the Demarcation Board’s decision to have Vuwani incorporated into the Malamulele municipality.

It is not only normal services that are interrupted in the area, but also learning as students are too afraid to go to school today.
