Style and Art, a non-profit organisation from Thohoyandou formed by a group of young people, hosted an exciting fashion show at Shuma Park Shayandima three weeks ago. The event attracted more than 100 attendees, including the King of VenRap, Mizo Phyll, Given da Chief, and H & Them, showcasing the rich talent within the community.
The group of 11 young individuals recognised a lack of fashion shows in Vhembe District and aimed to create more opportunities for local talent to shine. By empowering emerging artists, Style and Art hopes to inspire a new generation of young people.
One of the models, Ms Mphoe Komape, stated that the show played an important role in promoting local talent. “As a professional fashion and runway model, I've had the privilege of walking the catwalks of top designers and local brands worldwide. I have also mentored emerging talents and shared my industry knowledge,” she said.
The fashion show successfully brought together aspiring fashion designers and models, showcasing a variety of artistic expressions. Pearl Radzuma, a member of Style and Art, said that they were committed to nurturing the fashion industry. She added that they aimed to uplift the fashion scene by helping disadvantaged individuals gain exposure and opportunities.
“We hope that within the next five years, Style and Art will access international markets, allowing local Venda designers to be recognised on a global scale. We also want other young people to learn from our journey, inspiring them to innovate and create,” she said.
