Two boys killed in accident

The police in Limpopo have urged motorists in the province to abide by the rules of the road to rid the province of the deadly scourge of road accidents that continue to wreak havoc on the roads.

This follows an accident in Malamulele on Friday where a runaway car ploughed into pedestrians, killing two seven-year-old boys. Both were Grade 1 pupils at the local Mahlahle Primary School.

Limpopo police spokesperson Capt Mamphaswa Seabi confirmed the incident, saying they had already arrested a 40-year-old man about the case. "We charged the driver with culpable homicide and preliminary investigations revealed that during rush hour, a speeding vehicle drove over two boys. They were certified dead at the scene by the paramedics.”

Children from the school who witnessed the incident were so traumatized that arrangements were made for local social workers to conduct counselling at the school.

The arrested suspect will appear in the Malamulele Magistrate's Court, facing charges of culpable homicide. “We are continually appealing to all motorists and road users to respect traffic rules and adhere to the stipulated speed limits," Seabi said.
