Pupil dies in accident

It was a week of tears and sadness at Sinthumule High School as pupils and teachers mourned the loss of the 18-year-old Ndivhudza Mahosi. She died on Monday (7 August) in a taxi accident on the road near Muduluni Ha-Kutama.

Ndivhudza was in a taxi carrying pupils from different schools around Kutama and Sinthumule when the vehicle overturned. The passengers were flung from the taxi and sustained serious head, neck and back injuries.

W/O David Nkanyane of the Tshilwavhusiku SAPS explained to Limpopo Mirror what had happened. “The taxi was coming from the direction of Kutama. Members of the traffic police and paramedics rushed to the scene and the injured were taken to the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital for treatment.”

Nkanyane added that the police were investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving. “Further charges may be brought against the driver of the taxi, pending the outcome of the police investigations,” he said.

Mr Maanda Mulaudzi, spokesperson for the family, said that they were still in shock. “It is only God who knows why it happened like this. It is very painful to lose people like this,” he said.

Mr Khathutshelo Badugela, principal of Sinthumule High school, said that Ndivhudza was a bright pupil. “This is a huge shock and totally unexpected. We all mourn her death,” he said. He urged members of the community to drive responsibly and always obey the speed limit.

Thovhele Vho-Vele Kutama expressed his condolences to the affected family. He added that the community members around the Kutama area were deeply touched, especially as the victim was still so young. “The family members of the victim need our support in hard times like these and we hope accidents of this nature, which can be prevented, will never again take place on our roads,” he said.

Badugela said that the funeral service would be held at Tshikhwarani, starting at 06:00 on Saturday morning.
