Girl in court after death of granny

The police are investigating an incident where a 60-year-old granny of Tshivhungululu was allegedly killed by her 17-year-old granddaughter.

According to the police, Ms Ntsieni Elgie Phalanndwa allegedly reprimanded her granddaughter when she found out that the girl was not attending school for no valid reason. The Limpopo police spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, said that the incident happened at around 16:00 last Thursday (8th) when the two were at home.

Mojapelo further indicated that a fight ensued between the two, whereupon the granny allegedly tried to grab the girl, trying to beat her. It is alleged that, at that stage, the girl kicked the grandmother in the stomach, causing severe stomach injuries. "An ambulance was called and the grandmother was taken to Donald Frazer Hospital, where she passed on later that same day."

Mojapelo said that the girl appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Monday and the case was postponed to today (Thursday).
