Lady C releases new Afropop album

Just like good wine that mellows with time, local Afropop artist Ndinae Khodobo, better known as “Lady C” in entertainment circles, has come out strongly with the release of her latest album, Lofhela.

Her new offering comes almost two years after she had released her last album.

Khodobo said that her love of music started at a very young age; she would sing along to records on the radio and play on self-made instruments. As she grew older, she began singing in the Sunday School church choir. Her musical journey was largely influenced by African artists such as Malondolo.

The latest album features four exhilarating tracks, all in the same vein as her previous albums. Two of the songs are “Nisongo themba khonani” and “Mufunwa wanga.” They showcase the distinctive Afropop sound that made her a household name in the industry.

When asked why she had taken so long to release a new album, she pointed out that she was not interested in “quick bubble-gum music and a quick buck, but rather in music that will last for generations. Low-quality music comes and goes, but good music will last forever. I want to create something that will be listened to by many generations after we are gone.”

She also criticised music pirates, stating that they were stealing the livelihoods of artists and contributing to the decline of the music industry.

Khodobo mentioned that she can make a living as she is mostly booked to perform at small venues around the country. “Big promoters overlook us for major gigs, but we can make a living from the shows we have all over the country,” she said.
