“It’s not over until God says it’s over. Go back and look again. Your story doesn’t end in defeat; it ends in victory,” says reggae legend Callet Lisoga.

It has been a full four years since Lisoga last saw the inside of a recording studio, leading some to speculate that he had completely given up on music. His last album, “Thi ngo Elekanya,” was released in 2021, but he kept a low profile afterward.

The long wait is finally over.

Lisoga, better known as Burning Doctor, has bounced back with the release of his new single, “Zuza Vhusiwana.” The hot single, poised to revive his dwindling music career and put him back on top, was recorded in 2023 and released in July 2024.

The musician from Tshino in Vuwani has been in the industry for some time, with his release, “Athitanwi,” hitting the airwaves in 2002. He now boasts ten albums and DVDs.

Although happy and upbeat about the new single, Burning Doctor says the past four years were hell for him. “Life can sometimes humble you. My music business crumbled, and I was reduced to a nobody. All those I regarded as close to me vanished. Most of them wrote me off like a scrap car and thought it was over for me. But how wrong they were. God said to me, 'Rise up, my son, it is not over,’” he said.

Lisoga emphasised that he is alive and well. “As I speak now, I feel more energised and more determined to make it. I am back to reclaim my position as one of the founding fathers of the reggae genre in this part of the country. The single is just to give hope to my fans that I am back. A full album is on the way,” he said.

He added that, in a way, the four bad years were a blessing in disguise as they gave him time to reflect on his career and cook up the right stuff for his fans.

The single is available on all digital platforms.
