Lufuno Mudau spreads the Word of God with his songs

Read: 653

To pastor-cum-gospel-musician Lufuno Mudau, singing gospel is a wonderful alternative way to spread the Word of God. “As a pastor who preaches the Word of God every Sunday, it was important for me to derive other avenues for spreading the Word to a wider audience, and this is where gospel music comes in. This type of music is important because it promotes unity and gives hope to those who have given up on life.”

Mudau, better known as Mr Favoured in the gospel-music industry, is originally from Itsani village in the Thohoyandou area. His singing talent was discovered while he was still attending Dimani High School, near Thohoyandou. “I used to lead morning devotions in songs, and I also participated in the Student Christian Movement (SCM). That is where my fellow pupils and teachers encouraged me to take music seriously, which I did not do at the time because I was singing for no other reason than to praise the Lord,” he said.

After school, Mudau moved to Gauteng to do pastoral work and shot to stardom in 2020 with the release of his debut six-track album, titled The God Who Can. The album was very well received by gospel lovers and included the songs Ri a livhuwa, Esihlalweni, Edwaleni, Isandla, Great is Thee, and Uyenzi endlela.

Today, Mudau is pastor at the Lahai Roi Worship Ministries in Gauteng. Besides his churchly duties and singing career, he is also programme director of an NPO called Feed God’s Children, which identifies poor children and pays for their monthly crèche fees, excursions and graduation ceremonies. To empower other upcoming artists, Mudau also started the Favoured Music Production that is aimed at unearthing hidden musical talent.

He is currently working on his second album, titled The Written Word, which will be released later in April this year. “This is album is a thank-you gift to all my supporters who have been the pillar of my strength in the gospel-music industry,” he said. The album contains seven tracks, namely Siyathemba, Impi le, Ungumlio, Mitihro, Lahai Roi, Digorong and Mathomo na magumo.
