Dr Lutendo Samson Muremela introduced his third book, titled Women’s Health, Knowledge is Power to his supporters during a function held on Saturday at the George Phadagi Community Hall in Thohoyandou.

Muremela, a general practitioner in Thohoyandou, is passionate about teaching people how to follow healthy lifestyles. In 2018, he published the book Living a healthy lifestyle. A second book, Why men die young, was published in 2020.

“People should get educated about their bodies, diseases and how to achieve optimum health. Many diseases that kill us are actually avoidable, preventable and curable with treatment. This book constitutes the love of God, and we don’t want people dying because of lack of knowledge about diseases that attack them,” said Madzinge.

During Saturday’s book launch, Madzinge was joined by Pastor Rembuluwani Kharivhe of the Living World Mission church in Tshilivho village, Dr Maxwell Masakona and several other medical doctors. The author told his guests, who mostly consisted of women, that he had compiled and written the book because, as nurturers of families, woman were better able to look after their families properly if they were in good health. At the same time, should a woman get sick, the whole family becomes affected as they (women) are then unable to execute their duties.

Muremela was born and raised in Matsika village near Malavuwe, just outside Thohoyandou. After school, he furthered his studies in medicine at Sefako Makgatho Health Science University (SMU), formerly known as Medunsa.

“With my personal experience and the testimonies of various women, I was able to empower the reader to, among others, adopt a healthy lifestyle, and develop and encourage appropriate health-seeking behaviour. However, the book is not only written for women. I encourage all men to read it as well, so they can understand and support the women in their lives, whether it be a spouse, partner, mother or daughter,” said Muremela.
