Daloo Deey celebrates success on her debut album

Read: 1573

Daloo Deey, the young music sensation who kept the country enthralled with her single Live for the moment in 2020 and an EP titled What I Do, is set to release a debut album this year.

The album comprises 17 hot tracks, including Wafhano, Stronger, The struggle, A songo tuwa, Watch me dance, and Mufunwa.

Daloo Deey is also a guitarist of note. She feels that she has done her album justice regarding subject matter and the quality of the sound and lyrics. “I feel like this is my best work to date,” she said proudly. “I worked through this project during the lockdown period, which gave me time to reflect on many things, particularly my life journey and where I am going from here. I was able to pen that down and come up with a body of work that best reflects my personal experiences as a young woman in South Africa. I want to believe that this album aptly showcases my abilities as a musician.”

The album was recorded and produced at Mulata Branded Records. “Working with my team, we were able to connect with different nationally acclaimed musicians who also made a valuable contribution towards this project,” she said. “It is such a blessing to have a co-sign of artists like Emtee and Reason on my debut album. It gives me hope that maybe there is a better tomorrow for me in this industry.”

She said that what her fans could expect from this project was not a particular sound but a blend of different genres. “The songs are in Tshivenda, isiZulu, English and some sprinkle of Spanish, just to spice thing up a bit,” she said. “My aim is to take my fans through my life journey, and I hope my stories resonate with theirs.”

Born Phathutshedzo Lebusha, Daloo Deey resides at Lwamondo (Khumbe) but is currently based in Johannesburg.

“I discovered that I could really sing when I was only 10 years old, performing in a church choir,” she said. “The turning point was when I bought myself a guitar early in 2019 and started learning how to play through YouTube lessons. I started composing my own songs later on. For me, music embodies feelings and emotions, and it connects people. It can heal and provide strength.”

Daloo Deey has a sensational and soulful voice that just cannot be matched. She was discovered by Mulata Branded Lifestyle, an independent South African record label. Under this mentorship, Daloo Deey has been able to share the stage with the likes of Msaki, Zahara and Berita.
