Princess Lutendo's long-cherished acting dream comes true

Lutendo Ramadwa-Letsie, also known as Princess Lutendo, is content that her long-cherished dream of becoming an actress has finally come true.

This after she landed the role of a doctor in the popular SABC 2 soapy, Muvhango. Her role premiered on 11 November this year. Lutendo said she had entered many auditions before she had finally been given the role.

“I feel so happy and proud of myself,” she said. “I did a lot of auditions before, but even though I received some rejections, I never gave up. I kept on trying. And now I believe this is the beginning of greater things ahead.”

She said that her uncle, pastor Original Ramadwa, had encouraged her to follow her acting career from a young age. “My uncle, under whose wings I grew up, played a major part in my discovering my acting skills,” she said. “He is a pastor, so he would always teach us about discovering our potential. He is a man of many talents; even at home he would write a script and encourage us to play it out. It was so much fun, and I and my cousins enjoyed it. That's where it all started.”

She took part in school plays and later at university too. “I acted in some dramas that aired on Phalaphala FM,” she said. “But I still felt that I needed to make a TV breakthrough, and now I am a happier woman in that I scored that goal!”

Lutendo, who holds a BA honours degree in geology from the University of Venda, is a multifaceted social being. She is a songwriter, poet, actress, singer, storyteller, businesswoman and motivational speaker. “I am a strong voice in society against the abuse of women and children, and I seek to help liberate women from the chains of social abuse, economic abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse and emotional abuse,” she said.

Lutendo released a full-length album entitled Poetic Session One, which is a fusion of poetry and music. This selection of word-on-sound comprises nine poems and a song, which are all amazing in verse and rhythm. The song is called Ahuna, and the poems are People talk, My Love poem, Stop woman abuse, Madichaba, HIV/AIDS, Mudzimu, Muthu, and Take courage. The album is a package of artistic delights and focuses more on issues of women’s empowerment.

Princess Lutendo is also a presenter on Oana FM 94.0 for the Unspoken show on Mondays to Wednesdays from 9:00-12:00.

“I am a multitasker of a woman,” she said.
