Sydwell publishes motivational book

Read: 1166

A resident of Bungeni village, Sydwell Mthombeni, has published a book that aims to motivate those who are going through hard times and encourage people from all walks of life.

The book, which he self-published, is entitled Rejoice in Suffering. “It is meant to heal those who have situations they do not wish to be in. It is counselling based on biblical values and lessons,” Mthombeni said.

Rejoice in Suffering consists of 14 chapters and is not only for Christians but for people from different social, cultural, and religious backgrounds.

“Everyone living on earth needs healing, for we all experience suffering in one way or another, and we should rejoice in our struggles, knowing that we have the willpower to deal with them,” he said.

He developed a passion for reading after meeting three missionaries from the USA, who introduced him to biblical theology. From the year 2008 to 2010, Sydwell invested his time in the study of theology. “I was exposed to more Bible-centred authors and I loved books, so I bought hundreds of them through the years,” he said. “As I read, I started to write essays and short lessons that I would learn from the things I read.”

The birth of Rejoice in Suffering came to pass in January this year when one of his friends shared her story of suffering with him, telling him how she had lost hope. “So, I decided to write this book as a means to counsel to those who are experiencing hard times,” he said.  “To me, writing is not primarily about attaining riches. It is about touching people's lives with the truth that the Bible teaches in light of how we should respond when bad things happen to us.”

Rejoice in Suffering is available from Sydwell. Contact him on 063 712 3855. He is also available on Instagram and Facebook. A copy of his book costs R150.
