Debut gospel album for Rotondwa

A gifted young gospel artist’s childhood dream finally came true when one of the church members voluntarily paid all costs for recording his debut music album. This is the inspiring story of Rotondwa Rambau (28) of Mufeba village in the Mashamba area.

“I have been unemployed for most of my life, but a good Samaritan came forward to make my dream true. I had always dreamt of releasing a gospel album, but it was highly improbable because I was penniless. I always take a lead in the church and everyone commented that I have a good voice. One day, one of our church members and a relative of mine, Ms Mercy Rambau, approached me and offered to take care of all my recording costs,” said Rambau, whose debut album, Ndo vhona Madembe, was released in March this year.

Rambau said his breakthrough had taught him that one should not give up on dreams, even if one had no resources. “It has been years since I started singing, but I had this objective of becoming a professional artist. When you have a dream, there is no need to hurry because good things come to those who wait. The most important thing is to focus and continue what you are doing, and an opportunity will present itself. I did not know where to get the money for recording my album, but I had confidence that things would be alright one day. I am happy because today I have joined other gospel artists to preach the word of God through music.”

Although Rambau is happy that he has realised his dream of releasing an album, he says that getting airplay at various radio stations is difficult when you are a relatively unknown artist. “I have submitted my music to different radio stations, but they seldom play my songs. The feedback I get from my fans is overwhelming, but it is still difficult to get airplay. I believe that, with time, the radio stations will play my music, and this will help me to reach a wider audience.”

He says his album has 11 tracks, which are Ndo vhona madembe, Igwe, Oh Omega, Ndo zwi vhana, Dzina la khotsi, We are ready, Banani mavoko, Ndzivona tilo, Duvha li do tsha, U Jesu simbonile and O shuluwa malofha.

He thanks his fans for their kind support, although he is selling the album door to door. “People, especially here in my village, are buying the album and it gives me hope that I’m moving in the right musical direction. I would also like to acknowledge the support from the leader of our church, Bishop Eric Tshikunde, who has been the pillar of my strength since I started my singing career. I do not have enough words to thank my sponsor, Ms Mercy Rambau, for making my dream come true. I encourage other budding artists not to give up, until a golden opportunity presents itself.”

Rambau is available on 079 168 5444 (WhatsApp and calls) and on Facebook (Mawelawela Mawe).
