For Ewald Mokoditoa, radio has been his first love from a very young age. In fact, he cannot even recall the exact year when he first fell in love with the radio.
A resident of Tshikota location outside Louis Trichardt, Ewald joined Makhado FM in 2012 as a volunteer to address his passion.
“I knew that volunteering to do unpaid work for the radio station would come with financial implications on my side, but since I loved what I was getting myself into, I didn't view the financial expenditure as a loss,” he said. “I wanted to be groomed into a professional radio personality from the practical side where I trained right in the field of work.”
He is one man who thrives mostly on challenges because, he says, without challenges growth is scarce. “I love how the radio challenges me to be versatile and I also love and get amazed by the process of putting a show together,” he said. “Producing for me is like putting a puzzle into place, so that my audience can see the picture.”
He stated that he had always been fascinated by the science behind the radio and how it worked. “I wanted to understand how a voice made it to my radio at home,” he said. “Even today when I get behind the microphone or am just in the background as a producer, I tell myself that I am only a servant to the listeners out there, who always expect quality broadcasting.”
Radio also taught him some virtues, such as abiding by the rules and regulations governing the radio station. “I am compelled to abide by ICASA regulations and the station’s broadcasting policy,” he said. “I am not allowed to wear any political regalia or hold any executive position within a party because I must not appear to be biased in my reporting.”
He is currently producing two programmes, The Bridge (12:00-14:00) and Maswa Maswa (19:00-20:00) on weekdays.
