Rolivhuwa is one talented scribe

Rolivhuwa Ramulifho is a young woman who oozes confidence, amazing energy and an unquenchable passion for writing, and this is evident in her prose.

Limpopo Mirror’s journalist had a preview of Rolivhuwa’s work in the form of a novel entitled Vhutshilo vhu ya konda, and he was bowled over by her skill to weave words together to create meaning.

“I discovered my writing talent in 2011 as I got a stint as an actor with Phalaphala FM’s drama department,” she said. “Those of us who had a writing talent were encourage to also try dabbling into script and prose writing. I am that kind of writer who only gets to write with ease once I have had a title. The biggest challenge or work is to come up with a title, and writing is just the flow of the words out of my mind onto the paper.”

She tackles the issue of ‘unfruitfulness’ or ‘supposed barrenness’ that has a man abusing his wife and accusing her of the inability to conceive. On the other hand, it shows how it is important to raise stepchildren with total love and care as this is the case in one family where a now-affluent stepson acknowledges the stepfather’s contribution to his life, in contrast with the ‘absent blood father’. Vhutshilo vhu ya konda shows women that walking out of an abusive relationship is better,” she said. “If women could walk out and work for themselves, they would be much happier in their lives, rather than staying in a pain-infested relationship,” she said.

The book closes with two sterling poems entitled Lufuno and Vhusiwana hanga.

As a writer, and to keep her pen flowing, Rolivhuwa is an avid reader of good literature and she mentions two writers from two generations as her fountains of motivation. They are Mr Tiger Makwarela and Tshifhiwa Given Mukwevho.

“I learnt original Tshivenda language and its use just from reading Makwarela,” she said. “With Tshifhiwa is a different story: He's a talented writer whose book, A Traumatic Revenge, is a beacon of hope as it shows the youths that crime doesn't pay.”

The book is in the post-production stage and will be printed soon and made available to readers.

Tshifhiwa Given Mukwevho was born in 1984 in Madombidzha village, not far from Louis Trichardt in the Limpopo Province. After submitting articles for roughly a year for Limpopo Mirror's youth supplement, Makoya, he started writing for the main newspaper. He is a prolific writer who published his first book, titled A Traumatic Revenge in 2011. It focusses on life on the street and how to survive amidst poverty. His second book titled The Violent Gestures of Life was published in 2014.
