VenRap artist HaaNdi YellowMah's leap to fame when he was crowned Star of the Town during the SABC2's small-town Showville talent competition in July last year, has served as a motivation for him.
He entered the competition with full force and the ripened knowledge of a singer whose talent had endeared him to thousands of music lovers already, most particularly among his peers.
Just after the crowning, he has been churning out hit after hit and cementing his presence in the music industry through appearances at several music festivals and other performance gigs. “Once you win a prize, you need to maintain that kind of value and status through composing, recording and releasing high-quality music,” he said.
“Sometimes popularity is earned through hard work. We work in the privacy that the studios offer us but get to shine in the open world.”
He pointed that he had taken his music to another level, and that those who had been downloading his songs from online stores and free online portals could attest to the growth his music was undergoing.
“Some of the new songs that have been keeping people singing along and dancing are Zwi do Luga (ft Chris Bang), Celebration (ft Fizzy and Mizo Phyll), and If I Fall (ft Fizzy and Stunner),” he said. “Zwi do Luga is all about the challenges that we come across while we are struggling to make it in the music industry. Celebration is all about vibe – we need to forget about the problems of life and enjoy life for a moment.”
He hopes to put his megasongs together for an album, but he is not in a hurry for that kind of a project. “So long as I keep my head above the noise and belt out powerful lyrics infused with good sounds, it is all well – the rest will fall into place at the right time,” he concludes.

With a successful roots-reggae album titled “Shandukani” to his name, Fhatuwani Richard Mashele is quickly becoming a household name in South African music. Better known as Jah Saint in music circles, Mashele believes that success does not come overnight and that one must work hard to earn it.
Khathutshelo Dzaga from Thohoyandou Block G, known as Khathu within music circles, has captivated her fans with her latest song, “Muvhonetsheli”. Musician and actor Mpho Majiga is quickly emerging as the next king of disco on the South African music scene. The position became available after the passing of the late, self-styled king of disco, the legendary Dan Tshanda.
