Druza de Lanco releases Khadise

A Ha-Dumasi-born singer, Druza de Lanco, who has garnered himself thousands of fans through the years, has just released a single, Khadise.

He stated that the sound on Khadise was influenced by the rise of new genres known as “amapiano” and “qhom”, which are prevalent in Tshwane. This is a type of dancehall song. “Kha dise” means “bring it on”, which is a call from the dee jay, telling the dancers to climb onto the stage and dance with joy if they want to enjoy the music.

“Many people might interpret the song in ways that suit their situations and spaces, and, honestly speaking, they are at liberty to do so, only because music – as a work of art – is open to many and different interpretations,” he added.

Druza de Lanco claims to be a singer who possesses the artistic ability to bring vibe into any party or event. This first became apparent with the release of his debut album, Vibes of the Vibes, which was a mixture of house and kwaito.

In the recent years, he popularised himself with hits such as Ndi mufuna badi and Nikhomeli murandziwa, which packed the dance floor. He holds the view that people need to enjoy life through listening and dancing to good music.

“I was first featured in other artists’ projects in Tshwane, where most DJs loved my sounds and beats,” he said. “They fell in love with my sounds as they gave me opportunities to experiment with beats. They held me in high regard and encouraged me to continue to make good music.”

Druza de Lanco decided to go on his own and established a record label known as 6 2 6 Productions for which he composes and produces music. He has earned himself respect and admiration in the music industry, to the extent that he is believed to be the next house and kwaito pioneer by his fellow producers.

He was encouraged to also sing in Tshivenda, and that was the reason why he created Khadise. Those who encouraged him to sing in his mother tongue believed that Druza de Lanco had the potential to deliver messages in that language.

“My ambition is to improve the status of entertainment in Limpopo. I believe that no young artist should go and seek a record deal outside the province,” he said. “We have got what it takes to develop and record our own music right in our province.”
